2009-10-05
Government delegates meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, participate to the penultimate round of climate change negotiations ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in this December, at which a comprehensive international climate change deal is to be sealed. Professor Maciej Nowicki, Polish Minister of the Environment, President COP 14, participates on 3 through 7 October 2009.The Bangkok Climate Change talks were preceded by the UN Climate Change Summit in New York on 22 September 2009, convened by UN Secretary-General, at which around 100 heads of state and government clearly called for a comprehensive climate change agreement in Copenhagen.
Professor Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment, takes part also to the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) and the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 7) that take place from 28 September through 9 October 2009.
On 7 October 2009, meeting of the Bureau of the Framework Convention on Climate Change is expected under chair of Professor Maciej Nowicki. Bureau means a forum for representatives of all the regional groups within the UN system.
The Bangkok Climate Change talks are of crucial importance for the further preparatory arrangements to COP15. The issues to be discussed include preparation and adoption of the Final COP 15 Agenda, as well as the negotiation progress.
Yet one more such meeting (November, in Barcelona) is to be held before Copenhagen. Both Ad Hoc Working Group's outputs, including any possible proposals thereof, are to be also discussed there.
